- Not be granted an equivalent HDR funding award by the Commonwealth.
- Not get wages from another job that cover more than three-fourths of the RTP or DUPRS help amount.

- Finishing a degree at the top two levels of the Australian Qualifications Framework.
- The entrance requirement for PhDs is an overall grade as equal to a Deakin grade of 70% and for Masters is 65% for entrance to Deakin University.
